2010 Edmonton and Northern Alberta Historic Festival
Once again, the Highlands Historical Society is involved with the Edmonton and Northern Alberta Historic Festival held this year from July 9th to 18th.

Mitchell Residence - Open HouseHouse Image
Saturday July 10th, 2010. 1 to 4 p.m.
6128 - Ada Boulevard.

The Mitchell Residence was built in 1936 and has a picturesque, fairy tale quality to it with the main interest point being the hexagonal entrance tower with its nearly conical roof. The lot on which the house now stands was seized by the City of Edmonton from Margrath-Holgate for tax arrears in 1922, after which Frederick John Mitchell bought the lot for $650. He then built the house and lived in it until 1979 when he passed away at age 86.

Mitchell was one of Edmonton's longest serving aldermen. He spent 24 years on City Council from 1941 to 1964. Mitchell gave over many of the house’s design concerns to his wife. And today, design still figures prominently in this sensitively renovated home. The Mitchell house is a private residence opened to the public.

$10/person. All proceeds will go to the Highlands Historical Society for our community work.
